When it comes to the holidays, Southern California is the place to be. The weather is usually great, there are a plethora of things to do, and there are fantastic activities, shows, and shopping opportunities right in Yorba Linda or within a short drive to tickle the fancy of any holiday reveler.
So, whether you live in Yorba Linda or are just visiting friends and family during the holiday season, here are some suggestions for you to check out and get on the calendar while enjoying the mild Southern California winter.
Breakfast with Santa: Even Jolly Old St. Nick needs a little carbo loading to get ready to pull his annual all-nighter around the globe, so why not sit down and share a meal with him? This event will include breakfast and photos with Santa. Take note: Space is limited, and no walk-in registration will be allowed. And you can bet they’ll be checking that list—twice!—at the door. It all goes down for $20 on December 9 from 9 to 11:30 a.m. at the Yorba Linda Community Center.
Winter Fest OC: Southern California’s largest winter festival is taking place right here in Orange County! Celebrate an immersive experience at the OC Fair & Event Center with over a million lights, massive holiday decor, and thrilling activities. This winter wonderland features winter photo ops, snow play, ice tubing, interactive characters, live entertainment, and so much more. The event runs from November 24 to January 7, so pick the day that works best for you and enjoy a fun night out with your friends or family!
Holiday on Main Street: This annual parade will march down historic Main Street in Yorba Linda on December 2, 4–9 p.m. There will be plenty of fun for the whole family, with photos with Santa, a holiday drinks lounge, live music, a choo-choo train, a balloon artist, face painting, and more.
Families Together of Orange County Annual Christmas Together Toy Drive: This year’s event, scheduled for December 10, will be bigger than previous years, with 30,000 toys expected to be given away. The experience includes carnival rides, entertainment, pictures with Santa, and a variety of food options—all for free.
Disney on Ice: Surprising your family—especially those impressionable little ones—may put you on the slippery slope of raising expectations every holiday season, but that’s a risk worth taking. Imagine those looks of excited glee when you spring Disney on Ice tickets on your loved ones this year! With nine shows over four days (December 21–24), this Disney ice-skating phenomenon affords plenty of flexibility for scheduling. This year’s program features Frozen and Encanto.
Holidays Around the World: Experience what the holidays are like all around the world this year as Argyros Plaza transforms into a winter wonderland! Live performances from local music acts and dance groups will showcase holiday traditions from various countries around the world. The event will even feature fake sparkling snow and holiday crafts for kids!
Silent Night Silent Disco: Now is your chance to experience a unique silent disco! On December 8 at Argyros Plaza, the dance floor will be merry and bright! Each guest will receive light-up wireless headphones and will be able to choose from three music channels. Whether you choose to dance your heart out to holiday classics or hits from the Top 40, the silent DJs will have you rocking the dance floor!
Light a Light of Love – Waymakers: Venture out to Huntington Beach on December 3 to feel the warmth of friends, family, and the community as you shed light on Orange County’s children this holiday season. Thousands of community residents will enjoy a children’s holiday parade and entertainment as snowflakes are lit up all along the pier. Proceeds from the event will benefit Waymakers Huntington Beach Youth Shelter.
Volunteer with The Salvation Army: Ring somebody’s bell this holiday season by volunteering with the Salvation Army. Or, if you don’t have any rhythm and still want to help, how about volunteering as a personal shopper for a needy family? The Salvation Army wants you!
The 52nd Annual Golden Candy Caneland and Craft Faire: The Ehlers Event Center in Buena Park is the place to be on December 9 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. as plenty of excitement comes to town. There will be a boatload of food and crafts booths for holiday purchases, but there also will be games, snow slides, and a visit from Santa to divert the kids’ attention away from what you’re buying for them!
Holiday Festival at the Muckenthaler: Arts and crafts, free arts workshops for children, live music, and more family-friendly activities are all on tap at the Muckenthaler Cultural Center in Fullerton on December 17 from noon to 4 p.m.
Sugar Plum Arts and Crafts Festivals: Holiday shopping fairs are enough to get visions of sugar plums and credit card bills dancing in anyone’s head! This unique festival in downtown Buena Park offers homemade crafts, unique holiday and home decor, garden accessories, clothing, jewelry, food items, and fine arts by more than 175 vendors.
Holiday Faire: This Orange County fair hosts over 50 local artists selling one-of-a-kind holiday decorations, unique handmade gifts, hand-blown glass, ceramics, jewelry, folk crafts, clothing, and more.
We all want our home to smell fantastic for the holidays. And the mixed aromas of a fresh tree along with a batch of the latest holiday baking experiment wafting from the kitchen are pure nirvana this time of year. Scented candles are extremely popular during the holidays. If you plan on firing up that favorite cinnamon candle—or any other scent—this year, please remember that up to 7,400 fires are started each year because of household candles. So show extra caution when lighting candles in your apartment, especially in your bedroom. Consider using battery-powered candles or scented spray instead to address all your aromatic needs while avoiding any inherent dangers of an open flame. And if you do decide to use candles, please, don’t leave them unattended.
Naturally, live Christmas trees can also create another fire hazard. If bringing a real tree into your apartment is part of your plan this year, take every precaution to keep it watered so it doesn’t dry out. Take care to keep all open flames, such as candles, away from the branches, and make sure you turn all lights off when you’re not at home. Stay safe and enjoy the holidays!
Yorba Linda and the surrounding areas are packed with holiday cheer. Enjoy the activities, shopping, performances, and opportunities to give back and stay safe. From all of us who work at and represent Yorba Linda Pines Apartments, we wish you a Happy Holidays!
